Write Your Web Page Content by a Seasoned Pro

Ok, on this article I'm going to step away from formalities and keep it simple. The Year is 2013 and now, everything is digital, from simple things like Hotel reservations and Ticket booking to online dating, everything has been transformed into a digital network. We can find any and everything on the Internet, and I was even told by one of my tutors once, " When in doubt, just Google it out! ".

There are websites for any and everything. So, in order to keep the competitive edge in their favor, clients(Organizations, Corporations etc the whole nine yards) keep pushing developers to come up with newer and better websites that looks better, are much more safer and more efficient. In the race to develop the best website for the job, most developers, overlook one of THE MOST important components of a good website, and that is it's "content". No matter what high tech stuff you use, be it Ajax, Joomla, JavaScript, PHP or just pure HTML, if your website has boring content, then, you've lost the battle even before you started!

" So What is good web content ?" one may ask. And that is exactly what we are going to discuss in this article. Here are Some of the Most Important aspects of good web content:

  • Useful & Informative
  • Eye Catching (Formatting)
  • Interesting
  • Unique
  • Search-Engine Friendly

Alright, let's get started. First of all, web content should be Useful and informative. Not like most of the comments and content we find on Facebook or mySpace (Though I have seen some really useful stuff once in a while). People look for different things at different websites. Some look for Entertainment, some look for Information while others look to express their views, and the list goes on and on. So when designing your website, make sure to always post content that is actually related to your website, and/or the products/services you or your organization provide.

Secondly, good web content should be eye catching and easy to understand. Well, most of us aren't Rocket Scientists, so using six-syllable words ripped out of some dark hidden corner of an Oxford Dictionary, won't help your website at all, it'll only discourage visitors. So make sure to keep it simple. Use day-today English and always talk to the point.

Keep the formatting of the web site to only a few readable fonts and not too small font sizes.  You need a magnifying glass to read some sites out there. Make sure you don't do that mistake. Also present the content in easy to manage chunks. 2-3 sentenese at once and then a paragraph separator. Point form is preferred over the rest.

And now we come to "Interesting". Ok, I can't be very specific here, mainly because, what I find Interesting, may be highly non-interesting to others. And like the first point, "Useful and informative", this is also dependent on what kind of website, it is. This is mostly suitable for bloggers and other Informative websites that post all types of information. Always be decisive, never leave your readers in doubt. I know it sucks because it happened to me once and I still don't know which was the correct answer to the question. Do some research beforehand, find information that isn't that common or easily found, for bloggers, talk about stuff that people are shy or afraid to talk about.

Your readers will thank you for it later.

Be Unique, when writing content, adopt your own style and make it your identity, because, that's how your readers will remember you. Avoid Plagiarism at all costs! Be yourself, and write from your heart believe in what you write.

Last but not Least, Make your content Search engine friendly. This is most important if you want the search engines to "Find" your Website/Blog for the targeted keywords. There is a rule of thumb when writing to optimize in search engines which is to write for humans and ranking will naturally come. Don't try to stuff too many keywords because it will not be appealing to human readers and search engine may also find the content as spammy. Keep the natural balance of the language while inserting a few here and there. There is a lot to learn when it comes to writing the perfect article.
